What if I have a donkey
only? What
products are specific to donkeys?
Video Tape #9 and Tape #10 are specific
to donkeys. The
hardbound Donkey Training book (200+ pages with
color illustrations and pictures) is specific to donkeys. A
review by the respected equine magazine, Western Horseman,
talks about Tape #9 and Tape #10 as "Hodges provides
detailed explanations of exactly what you need to do
to teach your donkey certain maneuvers. Also helpful
is her practice of demonstrating the maneuvers with a
donkey who responds to her cues immediately, followed
by a demonstration of what to do when your donkey doesn't
respond as desired."
What video tapes do
you recommend if I'm just starting out?
You should purchase Tape #1 Foal Training,
whether your equine is a foal or not, and follow with
Tape #8 Management, Fitting and Grooming. Tape
#8 gives you a solid understanding of how to house, feed
and take care of your mule or donkey. Then you
should purchase Tape #2 and so on. If you skip
tapes, you will miss the foundational training you need
to go on to the next steps.
Is Tape #1 "Foal Training" just
for young foals?
No, Tape #1 is good for any aged animal.
Can I use Meredith's training techniques
for horses?
Yes, although her training techniques are
specially designed for mules and donkeys, they are applicable
to all equines. If a technique isn’t suitable for
horses, Meredith says so.
Have there been reviews done for Meredith's
products?
Yes, she has received numerous written reviews
in respected trade magazines such as Western Horseman, which describes the tapes as “…a terrific series
of videos for all mule and donkey lovers."
Are the videos professionally produced?
Yes, these award-winning videotapes have
been produced and edited by industry professionals using
high-quality technology. They are at least 45 minutes in
length and come with a workbook and laminated field cards,
so you can take Meredith’s techniques into the arena
with you.
Have Meredith's videos received awards?
Yes, her videos have received the prestigious
Telly Award and Vision Awards several years in a row. A
review by respected Western Horseman reads, "The production
quality is professional, with uncluttered backgrounds,
clear camera work and voiceover explanations dubbed in
later."
How long has Meredith been training mules
and donkeys?
Meredith began training mules and donkeys
in 1973, when she went to work on her mother’s 1,000-acre
mule ranch in Healdsburg, Calif. She moved to Loveland,
Colo., in 1980, where she actively bred, raised and trained
longears until the mid-90s. She continues to train her
own animals to this day and serve as a resource for people
around the world who share her love for mules and donkeys.
